Ex-Chiefs man to pursue Middle East option

KickOff.com has gathered that former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is now considering options from the Middle East as he seeks to get his career moving again.

Akpeyi has been without a club since the expiry of his contact at Chiefs in June and is on a club-hunting mission that has already seen him linked with Sekhukhune United.

The Nigerian keeper has trained with Swallows for several months but cannot be signed as the club remains banned from making transfers by FIFA following a ruling made by the global mother body in June.

The Birds have a pending settlement payment to Serbian goalkeeper Obren Cuckovic and Slovenia midfielder Vladimir Mandic which they agreed to in September.

The non-payment of the two players emanates from the previous Moroka Swallows entity which was liquidated before the rebirth of the current Swallows FC born from the status of Maccabi FC.

With his Swallows option at standstill, this website has been told that there are now options in the Middle East with Saudi Arabia mentioned.

There are other options on the continent, but they are not attractive enough.

According to sources options in the DStv Premiership are now slim with no club in need of a keeper with his profile considering his package range.Though the 36-year-old last played a competitive match in December 2021 he remains in top condition as he has been training with Swallows.

Akpeyi now plays as a non-foreigner.
