DRC boss: What I learnt from our last defeat to Bafana is…

Ahead of their third-place playoff against Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Democratic Republic of Congo head coach has given his thoughts on the progression of South Africa since their last defeat to them prior to the tournament.

When Hugo Broos got the better of the Frenchman in September 2023 at Orlando Stadium, nobody would've suspected that the duo would meet again so soon at the continental showpiece. Many perceive the two sides to have overachieved at the tournament as both European tacticians went as far as the semi-final with very different teams than what they put out on that afternoon in Soweto.

When Desabre was quizzed on what type of encounter he would be expecting at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny compared to the defeat he suffered in South Africa, he said: "Yes it will be a very different game as I've chosen a very different squad for the AFCON.

"We know South Africa, we know the work of Hugo Broos. It's a team with a very good organisation, with local players. They have set a good example for all the federations in Africa to promote local football.

"Their league is of a good quality with good organisation and they've shown it's possible in Africa, with good leagues, to have local players in the national team and to go far in the AFCON. We are happy to play against this team tomorrow."
