Ex-Bucs coach 'offered' to Wydad as Rulani successor

A former PSL coach has reportedly been offered to Wydad Athletic Club as a potential successor to Rulani Mokwena.

It is officially over between Mokwena and Wydad, with both parties announcing their separation on Tuesday.

Although the South African coach’s contract formally runs until the end of the season, it has been confirmed that he has been granted exceptional leave for the final three Botola Pro 1 matches. As a result, he will not return to the dugout.

In the interim, Wydad have appointed Amine Benhachem to oversee the remainder of the season, while the club has yet to decide on a permanent replacement.

However, Wydad are said to have been presented with a potential candidate to take over the role.

According to Moroccan news outlet Anbaetv, an agent has offered former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer to Wydad.

The German tactician has solid experience in the Moroccan top flight, having won the Botola Pro 1 title with Raja Club Athletic last season without suffering a single defeat.

Zinnbauer is currently in charge of Algerian side JS Kabylie, with his contract set to run until June 2026.

The report adds that Wydad’s board of directors has yet to make a decision on the proposal.

It also remains unclear whether a new permanent coach will be appointed before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on 14 June.
