Alex Song: Ex-Barcelona and Arsenal star hits out after 'unfair' contract termination

Song, 31, was amongst nine players who saw their contracts terminated by FC Sion this month for refusing to take an emergency pay-cut during the period of upheaval.

The Swiss Super League club have insisted all nine players failed to respond to the legal letter they received after the suspension of the league - leaving them with no option.

But the 49-time capped Cameroon star has hit back claiming the will fight for their rights, as the case is taken up to the World Football Governing Body.

"My lawyer will take care of it, it's gone to FIFA. We're going to defend our right," Song told French broadcaster RMC.

"We played a friendly on Friday and we were supposed to meet with the president on Monday, then Tuesday. We had no news.

"We received a WhatsApp message on Tuesday afternoon to tell us that everyone had to sign a paper saying that we'd reduce our salaries, that we'd be paid around 12,000 euros.

"We had to return the paper by 12pm the next day. We received this document without an explanation."

Song admits it was a collective decision to ignore the document before having official talks with the club.

"We decided together to not sign this document. We wanted to discuss it," he explains. "I've not committed any professional mistake. Every club talks to their players to reach solutions.

"I don't understand what's happened. Nobody can understand it."
