Former Egypt national team coach Carlos Queiroz has now reacted to the death of one of his former stars, who died four months after suffering a heart attack on the pitch.
On Saturday, Egyptian Premier League club Modern Future confirmed the passing of Ahmed Refaat, who devastatingly suffered a heart attack in March during a league clash against Al Ittihad Alexandria.
The seven-capped Egyptian was was placed in an intensive care unit on 11 March and he was fitted with a pacemaker before he was discharged a month later to continue his recovery at home.

"Modern Future FC announces the death of Ahmed Refaat, first team and Egyptian national team player, as a result of a serious deterioration in his health," the club said in a statement, according to ESPN.
"He was transferred to the hospital to die after an uphill journey of struggle following the health crisis that occurred on March 11 2024."

With Queiroz having worked with the player in the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021 as Egypt boss, the Portuguese tactician has penned a heartfelt farewell to Refaat.
Queiroz wrote on his Instagram: "He was a kind person and genuine football talent. His soul and heart were born to enjoy the beautiful side of the game. And his graceful and skillful football brought magic to the football stadiums.
"It was a privilege to share my life with Ahmed Refaat. He will remain in my heart and in my prayers. And I truly believe that God will protect him with Mercy and Compassion. Thank you my good friend for everything you have done for Egypt and my team. It was an honour."
According to Transfermarkt, the former left-winger made 211 appearances at professional club level, registering 46 and 40 assists in the process.
