Davids-Gamondi clash to 'raise standards' in Tanzania

The much-anticipated match between Fadlu Davids' Simba and Miguel Gamondi-led Young Africans has been described as one that will raise standards in Tanzania.

The two sides are scheduled to face off in a league encounter on Saturday afternoon, and both teams will be looking for victory to maintain their undefeated status so far this season.

Simba are currently in second place after playing five games, having won four of them, while Yanga are in fourth place after winning all four of the matches they have played.

Gamondi's men are the reigning league champions, while it has been three seasons since the Reds of Msimbazi were crowned champions, but Davids' appointment is said to have given the club renewed hope of silverware in this campaign.

Tanzania Premier League Board spokesperson Karim Boimanda has highlighted the importance of the match between the two domestic giants, and the effect it will have on the rest of the league.

"Given the enormous international interest, with many foreign journalists and fans eager to witness the game, this match requires exceptional preparation," he said, per IPPmedia

"As a high-profile league fixture, it demands a unique approach.

"We've been working hard to ensure that this will be one of the most memorable matches in our league's history.

"Simba and Young Africans have shown great commitment this season through their player acquisitions, technical staff appointments, and pre-season preparations.

"This level of dedication ensures we will witness a thrilling match that will raise the standards of the league."

Last season, Simba suffered a 5-1 defeat to Yanga, a result that would lead to the departure of former manager Roberto Oliveira.

Young Africans then made it a double when they defeated Simba by two goals to one when they met for the second time.
