The Confederation of African Football have re-elected Patrice Motsepe for a second term at the helm during the General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday.
South African business tycoon ran unopposed and secured a second four-year term.
In Motsepe's tenure, there has been a increase in prize money for CAF club and national competitions among other positive changes in African football.
Initially, Motsepe was tight lipped about a new term but in October he finally revealed that he would seek a second term after "following requests from numerous CAF member association presidents, zonal union presidents and key stakeholders".
The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss will run the football governing body until 2029.
Upon being re-elected, Motsepe had this to say.
"It's an honour and a privilege, thank you so much," said Motsepe during his speech after his election."The achievements over the last few years were because of all of us, and I am immensely grateful."He added: "This is about Africa, this is about the people of this continent, and it's been a huge privilege to get exposed to each one of you because you represent the best of the continent."Thanks to Gianni [Infantino], and FIFA as well."
One of the president's main priorities will be to support Morocco in their attempt to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to the election, Motsepe told his delegates to decide for themselves who should be the president.
"I'm not gonna tell you who to vote for, I'm a different President.
"You must decide who to vote for. There are lot of good candidates here."
