It was reported that there talks between the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) and Cisse of a potential extension for an additional year but those talks proved fruitless, as the sports ministry felt it was the right time to part ways with the manager.
Cisse's former assistant, Pape Thiaw was named interim coach and he instantly helped the side qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after winning his two games against Malawi in October.
It still unclear whether Thiaw would be appointed permanently, however, the country's sports minister Khady Diéne Gaye has now revealed that are engaging with the FSF on finding Cisse successor, as there's an upcoming deadline.
"I have exchanged with the President of the Senegalese Football Federation and we are waiting for a proposal from them," Gaye told Walf TV.
"I trust them and they will offer us the one they have chosen to entrust him with the destiny of the national team.
"There are deadlines that are coming very soon. A local selector? The Federation is working on it. You know everything is discussed!
"There are many priorities to manage in the country but we will see."
