Zamalek thanks doubters after CAF Super Cup triumph

Zamalek coach Jose Gomes has thanked the team's doubters after securing the CAF Super Cup against their fierce rivals Al Ahly.

Gomes' charges defeated the Champions League holders 4-3 on penalties after it 1-1 during regulation time on Friday night.

The Portuguese tactician insists his side were full value for their triumph over Al Ahly.

"We played a good match, and I am happy with the players. I would like to thank the fans and the players who implemented the instructions.. and morale is high," the coach said on MBC Masr channel.

"We deserve to win and be crowned champions. We succeeded in dominating and excelling in the second half and the performance improved significantly. I had confidence in all the players and we worked hard, so we deserved to be crowned champions and win."

The Zamalek also responded to those who doubted his side before the clash in Riyadh.

 "Zamalek controlled the match and it was difficult to prepare in such a short period of time. But we were brave and showed everyone that we are capable of winning," he continued.

"Some said it would be better for us not to play because we would lose the match.

"This did not happen, but we must thank them too, as these words gave us additional strength and motivation. I thank the fans for their support, and we prepared well for this challenge."
