Cristiano Ronaldo recently scored a record-breaking treble of strikes against Luxembourg, but where does he rank among those stars, including long-time rival Lionel Messi, who have netted the most hat-tricks since 2000?
The Portuguese striker helped his nation to a 5-0 win in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, and his trio of strikes was the Manchester United star's 10th international hat-trick, more than any other player in football history.
Ronaldo now has 115 goals in 182 matches for his country, making him the all-time leading international goalscorer, and he is also the player with the most hat-tricks, for both club and country, in the 21st century.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, his long-time rival Messi also features in the gallery. Having become Barcelona's record goalscorer over the past two decades, the Argentina talisman is close to the top of the pile, although he has five trebles less than the Red Devils superstar has.
Ronaldo's United teammate Edinson Cavani is also on this elite list of treble goal-getters. Per The Sun, the Uruguay talisman has 15 hat-tricks in his career, during which he also became Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading goalscorer with 200 goals in his seven years in France.
Cavani's international teammate Luis Suarez is the one Uruguayan player in history who has scored more times for his country than his striking partner has, and has 29 hat-tricks to his name in his 16-year career, which he has spent playing for the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Liverpool, FC Barcelona and, currently, Atletico Madrid.
