Chelsea boost UCL hopes with slender victory

Chelsea moved up to fourth place on the Premier League table after picking up a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Shot-stopper Robert Sanchez returned between the sticks ahead of Filip Jorgensen for the Blues, who also welcomed back Wesley Fofana to the starting line-up.

Cole Palmer missed a golden chance to make the breakthrough from the penalty spot as Mads Hermansen pulled off a save after Victor Kristiansen upended Jadon Sancho in the box.

The action shifted though as Tosin Adarabioyo nearly scored into his own net when his clearance from the head in the area came off the upright.

Chelsea got an inviting opening a minute to the half with Christopher Nkunku released through on goal and level with Hermansen, but the latter held firm.

The Foxes resistance were broken in the opening-quarter of the second half through a superb low bottom-corner finish by Marc Cucurella.

Substitutions for the Blues a little later saw Trevor Chalobah introduced for Fofana before Tyrique George replaced Palmer.

Leicester, who have been battling to find form under Ruud Van Nistelrooy, struggled to get in-behind amidst the firepower of Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka.

The moments to salvaging something remained ahead of the final whistle, but the decisiveness up top in particular continued to lack.

In the end, the Blues walked away with the maximum points and maintained their hopes of a top-four finish at the end of the campaign.
