Arsenal's top four push suffered a setback following a 3-0 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Mikel Arteta was forced to make a change at left-back as Nuno Tavares came in for the injured Kieran Tierney while Wilfried Zaha overcame his injury to make Palace's line-up.
Patrick Vieira's men drew first blood in the 16th minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta sent a header into the back of the net after being set up by Joachim Anderson.
Just under 10 minutes later, Palace doubled their advantage as Jordan Ayew latched onto a long pass from Anderson abd took a couple touches before firing past Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Ramsdale came to the Gunners rescue shortly before the halftime break after pulling off a good save to deny Mateta his second goal after some good work by Zaha down the left flank.
Here are the highest-paid players in the Premier League this season:
After the introductions of Gabriel Martinelli and later Eddie Nketiah, the visitors threw everything forward in search of a goal while Palace were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.
Nketiah made an immediate impact after creating a glorious chance for Martin Odegaard in the 68th minute, but the Norwegian midfielder scuffed his effort in the box.
Odegaard then messed up at the other end after fouling Zaha in the box, handing the Eagles a penalty which the Ivory Coast international converted to extend his side's lead.
Nketiah went closest to pulling a goal back on 82 minutes with a strike from distance that cannoned off the woodwork, but Palace were able to see out the closing stages and clinch a memorable win.
