Manchester United suffered their sixth home defeat in the Premier League following a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils made four changes from the win in the UEFA Europa League as Andre Onana, Lenny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte were recalled, while Kobbie Mainoo lined up as the striker after both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund were left on the bench.
The home side nearly got off to the perfect start on five minutes when Mainoo picked up the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a strike that Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson forced onto the upright.
Palace, meanwhile, certainly held their own in the opening 20 minutes as the likes of Ismaïla Sarr and Daniel Munoz squandering some golden chances in the Red Devils box.
The Eagles continued to make chances on the counter and they were nearly rewarded after 38 minutes when Jean-Philippe Mateta latched onto a pass from Jefferson Lerma before sending a lobbed effort inches wide of the post.
The hosts looked livelier after the second period, as they went close to opening the scoring five minutes in when Adam Diallo picked out the run of Bruno Fernandes, who unleashed a powerful strike that forced Henderson into a good save.
United were punished after the hour mark as Munoz's towering header hit the woodwork and fell into the path of Mateta, who was on hand to head home for his fifth league goal in five matches.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, United coach Ruben Amorim opted to freshen up his attack by throwing on Zirkzee and Hojlund for Mainoo and Noussair Mazraoui as they pushed for an equaliser.
The changes would make no difference as Palace went on to seal the win in the 89th minute when Munoz got beyond the United defence and unselfishly teed up Mateta for the second goal.
