Man Utd drop to 15th spot after Spurs loss

Manchester United dropped to 15th on the Premier League table after going down 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

A depleted United side were without Amad Diallo, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen as Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund returned, while Spurs welcomed back Guglielmo Vicario from an injury layoff.

Vicario made himself big in just five minutes played after tipping Garnacho's close-range shot before Diogo Dalot saw the follow-up cleared from the line by Ben Davies.

James Maddison marked his return in style in the opening quarter when he tucked a rebound from goalkeeper Andre Onana in the near corner.

Garnacho went close again with a curler around the six-yard area as the host failed to clear their lines, but unfortunately the Argentine shaved the goal of Vicario.

The latter made himself big again minutes in the second period when he rushed off his line to deny Garnacho's first-time shot from a tight angle.

Garnacho remained lively though and drew another telling save from Vicario with a low rasping shot from outside the six-yard box.

Spurs pushed in pursuit of a second a while later and saw a snap shot by the on-loan Mathys Tel deflect off Harry Maguire and behind for a corner-kick.

The home team made a double change where Brennan Johnson came on for Maddison before Lucas Bergvall vacated for Pape Matar Sarr.

Ruben Amorim's men remained energised in the closing quarter and nearly profited directly from a corner through skipper Bruno Fernandes, but Vicario palmed to safety.

Spurs maintained the late pressure in the final minutes and secured the win to complete the league double over United.
