Tau's Al Ahly denied Club World Cup final spot

Al Ahly missed the chance to progress to the FIFA Club World Cup final after a 2-0 defeat to Fluminense on Monday night.

Akram Tawfik was only the change for the African champions from the win over Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, while Marcelo and Felipe Melo headlined the Brazilians' starting line-up.

The Brazilian outfit made a promising star to the first half, as Jhon Arias went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when he cracked the frame of the goal after just eight minutes.

Al Ahly should have been ahead after 18 minutes with two chances in quick succession, with Mohamed Abdelmonem going wide with a header while Tawfik fired wide of the target from very close range.

The African champions did see more of the ball in the latter stages of the first as they looked to finish strong, but they were unable to find a way past Fluminense goalkeeper

The opening goal would fall to the South American side when Marcelo won his side a penalty after being fouled by Tau in the box, which allowed Jhon Arias to covert from 12 yards out.

That proved to be Tau's final involvement as the South Africa international made way for Karim Fouad with 15 minutes left on the clock.

The changes would not matter as the South Americans bagged their second goal in the 90th minute, with John Kennedy finding the back of the net to seal the team's spot in Friday's final.
