Barcelona drop points after late collapse

LALIGA leaders FC Barcelona squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Celta Vigo on Saturday evening.

Gavi and Dani Olmo were restored to the starting line-up for Barcelona, who were still without 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres.

Barca didn't take time to get going as Brazilian international Raphinha came short to cut inside having worked the cleverest of space to find the net and continued his strong start to the season.

The set-back caused nervousness amongst the host, with the Blaugrana seeing a majority of the possession in the opening stages and penetrated effectively.

Nippy Iago Aspas looked to inspire a sense of urgency and confidence to the home side's plight a little later to the break though were heavily monitored by Gerard Martin amongst others.

Martin unfortunately didn't come out for the second stanza as the Blaugrana decided a substitution and hauled development graduate Hector Fort on the park.

Barca, who still enjoyed a slender advantage, were pretty reserved after the break where the number of overloads in forward areas were reduced.

The high-riding league leaders did up the ante though and grabbed a second when Lewandowski picked up a loose ball for a comfortable finish following a scramble in the box.

With the visitors cruising, matters changed eight minutes before time after Marc Casado saw red for a second bookable offence and leave his outfit a man down.

Celta took full advantage thereof as a defensive error by Jules Kounde saw Alfonso Gonzalez get clear on goal to beat Inaki Pena with ease.

In no less than minutes, the home team were back on level terms when Hugo Alvarez got hold of a surging delivery and withstand a challenge in the box before beating Pena.

Barca were not able to go back in front as time ticked away and in the end had to walk away with a point apiece.
