Rampant Barca thrash Mallorca to extend lead

FC Barcelona bounced back from the weekend's defeat with a 5-1 thumping of Mallorca in LALIGA action on Tuesday night.

The Catalan giants left Robert Lewandowski on the bench as Ferran Torres started up front, while Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Marc Casado were also back in the team.

Torres made the most of his rare start after opening the scoring in the 11th minute by showing great reaction to pounce on a loose ball and slot home from just inside the box.

Barcelona were a lot more livelier this time around compared to Saturday's loss, with Raphinha pulling the strings while Torres and Lamine Yamal squandered a couple changes at the midway point of the stanza.

Mallorca were back on level terms just before the halftime break when Pablo Maffeo ran onto a through-ball before laying the ball on the play for Vedat Muriqi to fire home for his third league goal.

The host, however, were not able to hold on to that lead for long after Raphinha converted a penalty in the 55th minute after Lamal had been brought down in the box by Johan Majica.

Hansi Flick's charges went on to get the two-goal advantage in the 74th minute when Yamal turned to provider to pick out Raphinha with a lovely cross with the outside of his boot, with the Brazilian turning home to complete his brace.

There was time for a fourth goal as Frenkie de Jong got his name on the score-sheet with a powerful finish from close range after Mallorca were able to clear their lines from Pua Victor's cross.

Victor was able to add his name to the score-sheet with seven minutes left on the clock with a composed finish to round off the win, which sees Barcelona move four points clear of Real Madrid who are in action on Wednesday night.
