LaLiga match report Real Madrid v Getafe

Los Blancos made two changes from the win over Huesca, as Marvin Park and Marcelo took the places of the suspended Toni Kroos and the injured Alvaro Odriozola.

Karim Benzema came close to giving Madrid an early lead in the 13th minute after leaping the highest in the centre of the box to power a header from a corner but his effort clipped the top side of the crossbar.

The hosts kept on putting Getafe under pressure and Luka Modric almost broke the deadlock for Zinedine Zidane's charges ten minutes before the break with a low strike inside the six-yard that was saved by shot-stopper David Soria with his leg.

The visitors kept Madrid away from their goal in the closing phase of the first stanza to keep the score goalless heading the break.

Benzema almost broke the deadlock four minutes from the break after finding space inside the box to fire a low strike across goal but he was denied by Soria.

The Frenchman finally broke the ice for the hosts on the hour-mark with a close-range header at the near post after a cross by Vinicius Junior from a free-kick situation.

Ferland Mendy doubled the lead for Los Blancos seven minutes later with a first-time strike at the near post guided towards the far post after a cross by Marcelo.

Madrid were settled in the contest in the latter stages, with Getafe desperately trying to get back into the game but Zidane's men managed to see out a 2-0 win that moved them up to second on the log, five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid who have two games in hand.
