Lionel Messi: Samuel Eto'o claims FC Barcelona should be renamed amid exit talk

Messi is said to have informed new manager Ronald Koeman of his desire to leave Barcelona in the current off-season after growing disillusioned with the direction in which the club is heading.

Eto'o admits that any decision Messi will make about his long-term future, he will respect and cheekily suggested that the only way his achievements can be honoured is by renaming the club after the Blaugrana record-scorer.

The Cameroon icon went on to explain that the club should do everything in their power to make sure he remains in Catalonia as he is unrivalled in world football.

"We are lucky in that at Barcelona, we have the best player in the world and of all-time, we have to do everything possible to ensure he finishes his career at Barcelona," Eto'o explained before opening up on the Bayern Munich thrashing.

"I really suffered myself with that defeat, not just for Leo, but for all of the lads. Someone who has never played the game will find it hard to understand, but these things exist in football - and in life too.

"Anyone can suffer a fall but you have to get up again and that is the most difficult part. The players, the bosses, the fans... I hope that we can lift ourselves up from this and begin to dream again for next season."
