In the wake of LaLiga's return, we take a look at the South African footballers who played in the Spanish top-flight, which includes three former Kaizer Chiefs stars.
On Friday, LaLiga officially returned to action after three months of suspension due to the coronavirus crisis and whilst fans are still not able to attend games, the ten rounds of fixtures for the 2019/20 season is set to be completed.

Not many South African's have plied their trade in the Spanish top-flight over the years, with Benni McCarthy arguably the most high-profile player from Mzansi to have made his mark in Western European nation.

Bafana Bafana's all-time record goalscorer joined Celta Vigo from Ajax Amsterdam in 1999, representing a record transfer for a South African footballer at the time - with the deal exceeding the €6-million mark.
It marked a tumultuous period for the Cape-Town born striker as he netted 20 goals in 92 games before he rediscovered his form under Jose Mourinho at FC Porto - where he went on to win the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League.

McCarthy's former international teammate, Quinton Fortune, was actually the first player from SA to have represented a club in Spain when he joined Real Mallorca from Tottenham in 1995.
The left-footed midfielder spent just one year at the club before earning a move to Atletico Madrid where he spent a further three years, leading to his dream €2-million transfer to Manchester United.

Former Chiefs defenders David Nyathi and the late Sizwe Motaung soon followed, with both featuring for Tenerife over one season stints, while Tsepo Masilela played for Getafe before his move to Naturena in 2012.
Former Bafana centre-back Nasief Morris, caps off the representation, having played for Recreativo Huelva and Racing Santander between 2008 and 2010.
