Paris Saint-Germain unhappy with Lionel Messi Argentina decision

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has revealed the reason why the club is unhappy with Lionel Messi's recent Argentina call-up.

The South American nation recently announced their squad for their upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and many were surprised to see the 34-year-old had been called up for international duty.

Messi is understood to be nursing an injury after missing PSG's UEFA Champions League clash against RB Leipzig last Wednesday and their Ligue 1 clash against FC Girondins de Bordeaux on the weekend.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has an issue with his left knee, but the Argentina staff are seemingly optimistic their captain will be fit enough to play in their qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.

However, this decision has not impressed the French club's chiefs, including Leonardo.

"We don't agree with letting a player, who isn't fit to play for us and is in recovery, join up with his national side," he told Le Parisien.

"It doesn't make sense and this kind of situation needs to be discussed with FIFA."

La Albiceleste are set to take on Uruguay early on Saturday morning before facing the Selecao four days later as they aim to book a spot at the next World Cup.
