Man Utd told to 'cut ties' with big-money signing

Manchester United have been urged to cut ties with one of their big-money signings ahead of the January transfer window.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney feels the Red Devils must offload Brazil international Antony, who is now in his third season at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian joined the Manchester outfit from Ajax in a massive deal worth £85million, but he has failed to live up to expectation in the last three years.

"As soon as Manchester United took Antony off, everybody else started running,' Deeney told CBS Sports," Deeney said after United's loss in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

"They've got to cut ties with him. I don't want to make him the scapegoat but, honestly, watching him is so frustrating.

"This is your big moment. He doesn't run, he doesn't sprint - just get him out. If you're getting rid of Marcus Rashford, whoever is taking him, we'll pay you to take him [Antony] as well. Get him out the club."

United coach Ruben Amorim has given an explanation as to why Antony made be struggling in the attack.

"He needs more confidence," Amorim told reporters, as per Goal.

"If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-v-one, so he will improve. But he's working really hard, he's trying, he's playing more inside than outside, especially in this game (against Tottenham).

"You have to do that to work really hard and that will help him to be a better player."
