Cristiano Ronaldo news: CR7's penalty record revealed

Cristiano Ronaldo proved himself to be human after missing from the penalty spot on his return to action, but how does the Juventus superstar's record from the spot hold up after his latest miss?

On Friday, Juventus secured their spot in the 2019/20 Coppa Italia final after overcoming AC Milan via the away goals rule, but were made to sweat after Ronaldo's missed penalty put their prospects of progression in jeopardy.

That miss was a rare showing of fallibility from the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who netted from the spot in the reverse fixture in February, but will have done little to harm a record that remains one of the greatest in football's recorded history.

Throughout his career, for both club and country, Ronaldo has scored an incredible 121 of the 144 penalty kicks he has been tasked with taking, boasting an impressive success rate of 84% from the spot, according to Transfermarkt.

By comparison, the 35-year-old's arch-rival Lionel Messi has missed three more penalties despite taking 29 fewer spot-kicks, and boasts a conversion rate of 77% when taking penalties for FC Barcelona and Argentina.
