Report: Juventus 'leading the race' for Bayern Munich's David Alaba

Serie A champions Juventus are reportedly leading the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

Alaba's contract at Bayern expires in 2021 and talks with the club have reportedly broken down in recent months.

There is no doubt a number of clubs would be interested in the versatile defender, but Tuttosport claims Juventus are leading the race to sign the Austrian.

The report claims Alaba has no plans to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena, and could leave for free at the end the current campaign unless he decides to change his mind.

The 27-year-old is able to play left-back and centre-back while he is also used as a midfielder for the Austrian national side.

Alaba recently revealed that Bayern asked him about being involved in a swap deal while in talks over a new deal.

"After the second or third conversation (about the new contract), I got a call and was asked if I could imagine being included in a swap deal. That probably was a slap in the face," the defender said, according to Goal.

"The respect and appreciation I was looking for when the contract negotiations started were not going in the right direction. That was a year ago now. In times when coronavirus was still very far away."
