Serie A match report Juventus v Atalanta

Juventus could only manage a 1-1 draw against Atalanta in Serie A on Wednesday evening, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty.

Andrea Pirlo opted for three changes to the side that edged Genoa, as Danilo, Arthur Melo and Alvaro Morata entered. Atalanta went with a single switch in Jose Luis Palomino.

Morata should have opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Berat Djimisti's tack on Ronaldo put the ball into his path, however the striker went for the back-heel and failed to hit the target with the net gaping.

Pirlo was forced into a change on 27 minutes when Arthur Melo had to be taken off following a tackle from Cristian Romero, with Adrien Rabiot brought on as his replacement.

Nevertheless, Juventus took the lead soon after as Federico Chiesa sent a fine curling effort into the back of the net from just outside the box.

Wojciech Szczesny came to Juventus' rescue before the break, with the shot-stopper pulling off two vital saves to deny Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskiy.

Some more great goalkeeping was on display in the second half as Atalanta's Pierluigi did well to deny Morata shortly after the halftime break.

Juventus were made to pay for their earlier misses after Alejandro Gomez played in Robin Freuler who sent a fine finish past Szczesny.

Four minutes later, the hosts were awarded a penalty for a foul Chiea in the box but Ronaldo was unable to make it count as Gollini pulled off the save.

With time running out, Morata almost netted a late winner but his effort was kept out by Gollini, as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
