The Reds' victory follows some of the great upsets in the Champions League in recent years, including Manchester United's 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the 1998/99 final. Having trailed for the opening 84 minutes of the match, the Red Devils struck twice in two minutes to claim the title and, in doing so, secured a historic treble.
In the 2003/04 campaign, AS Monaco stunned record 13-time champions Real Madrid with a 5-5 aggregate draw to go to the next round via the away goals ruling.
