Son Heung Min: Tottenham star refuses to celebrate goals after Andre Gomes horror injury

Tottenham star Heung-min Son has broken silence on the horrific Andre Gomes injury he was red-carded for and revealed why he refused to celebrate his goals in the UEFA Champions League.

The South Korea international was sent off during Spurs 1-1 draw with Everton over the weekend, for his challenge that resulted in Gomes ankle break.

While the Portugal international has since undergone successful surgery and Son has seen his red card rescinded upon appeal - he notably chose not to celebrate his two goals against FK Crvena Zvezda on Wednesday evening.

"Of course it has been a really tough few days but I have realised how lucky I am with all the support I have had from the fans and my team-mates," Son told Eurosport.

After admitting he sent the former FC Barcelona midfielder a personal message after the incident, he went on to praise the support he's received through the emotional ordeal.

"I can say I'm really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going and it was the right response to all the people who have supported me.

"I didn't want to celebrate because I just want to respect the situation. Of course, I still feel really sorry about this ... It's been a few tough days. I wish Andre Gomes gets well soon and best wishes."
