STUNNED: Sporting thrash Man City

Sporting Lisbon 4-1 Manchester City

Manchester City had an evening to forget in the UEFA Champions League after losing 4-1 to Rúben Amorim's Sporting Lisbon.

Heads were turned on the front of City who debuted 19-year-old Simpson-Pusey in the tournament before Rico Lewis and Savinho filled in for Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gundogan respectively.

The English champions didn't take long to set their intentions clear where Phil Foden nicked possession high-up and charged forward before firing in from way out.

With halftime approaching, Sporting levelled when Viktor Gyokeres picked up a perfectly placed through pass and held off Manuel Akanji for a clever finish over Ederson.

Sporting were in control a minute in the second half after Maximiliano Araujo found the time and space to meet a cutback and beat Ederson from close proximity.

The Cityzens endured more misery as Josko Gvardiol a little later brought down Francisco Trincao and conceded a penalty which Gyokeres tucked in to complete his brace.

Gyokeres remained pivotal to the home side's quest and bagged a hat-trick when he dispatched another spot-kick after a foul by Matheus Nunes on Catamo.

Real Madrid 1-3 AC Milan

Real Madrid suffered a 3-1 defeat to seven-time champions AC Milan at the Bernabeu in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Luka Modric returned as Eduardo Camavinga dropped to the bench on the side of Madrid, while Fikayo Tomori, Yunus Musah and Rafael Leao earned a recall by Milan.

The defending champions had a poor start as Malick Thiaw sneaked ahead of Eder Militao at the near post and thumped in the top corner with a powerful header.

Brazilian star Vinicius Junior responded for the host when he won a penalty midway through the half and did the honours from 12-yards out to bring matters level.

Milan, though, were back in front as a spill from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin following Leao's goal-bound shot allowed Alvaro Morata to tap in on the rebound.

Los Blancos continued to find the going tough and fell further behind as Tijani Reijnders finished off a cutback from Leao, with Lunin well beaten.

Madrid looked to have made a late fight after Antonio Rudiger volleyed in a loose ball from the back-post, but unfortunately was signalled for offside

Liverpool 4-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool made it four wins from four matches and moved to the top of the table in the League Phase following a 4-0 drubbing off Bayer Leverkusen.

Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones were hauled back in by the Reds and saw Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai make way from the weekend win over Brighton Hove Albion.

The duo combined to make the breakthrough after halftime when Jones played a telling through ball for Diaz to run onto and chip over the on-rushing Lukas Hradecky.

Dutchman Coady Gakpo added after meeting a pin-point cross at the back-post by Mohamed Salah and nodded in with the goal given on a lengthy pitch-side review after an initial offside.

Diaz stole the show where he wrestled possession from the far post to guide home Salah's delivery and tapped in a loose ball in added time following a counter to see out his hat-trick.

LOSC Lille 1-1 Juventus

Juventus needed to come from behind in the second half to hold the in-form LOSC Lille to a tense 1-1 draw at the Pierre-Mauroy.

Juan Cabal and Francisco Conceicao formed Juve's changes with Nicolo Savona and Timothy Weah sacrificed, while Makau and Thomas Meunier were amongst the changes for Lille.

Red-hot striker Jonathan David opened the proceedings before the half-hour mark through a composed one-on-one effort after meeting a ball in-behind.

Juve, who have battled for results lately, found a way back albeit from the penalty spot minutes in the second half through Dusan Vlahovic with Conceicao having gone down in the box.

Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Sturm Graz

Borussia Dortmund left it late to get past a stubborn and winless Sturm Graz 1-0 and moved into fourth-place on the table.

The runners-up last season had the decisive effort five minutes before time when Donyell Malen picked up a through pass from Serhou Guirassy to finish from the right of the area.
