Manchester City endured a frustrating evening at the Etihad after being held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan in their UEFA Champions League opener.
City coach Pep Guardiola made four changes from the win over Brentford over the weekend, with Rodri, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva all recalled.
The Serie A champions looked livelier on the break early on, with Marcus Thuram passing up two big chances in the opening 20 minutes as City were living dangerously at the back.
Guardiola's charges were finding it difficult to carve out any clear openings for Haaland, although Savio and Jack Grealish were a threat on the respective flanks without creating much int he final third.
Inter, however, had the biggest chance of the half just before the break after Carlos Augusto saw his low strike from a tight angle turned away by Ederson after City were caught out in the counter.
Despite replacing Kevin de Bruyne and Savinho with Gundogan and Phil Foden, it was Inter who carved out the chances in the second period when Matteo Darmian blazed wide from close range eight minutes in.
Inter responded with a couple changes of their own, as talisman Lautaro Martinez replaced Thuram while Piotr Zielinski made way for Henrikh Mkhitaryan as they refreshed the attack for the final 25 minutes.
With City dominating, Gundogan should have won the game for the Citizens late in the second period but the German midfielder squandered two headed chances in the six-yard area as the encounter ended all square.
