Raphinha hat-trick helps Barca thrash Bayern

FC Barcelona 4-1 Bayern Munich

Raphinha scored a hat-trick as  FC Barcelona thumped Bayern Munich 4-1 in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

A single change by Barcelona saw Fermin Lopez replace Ansu Fati, while Joao Palhinha came in for Aleksandar Pavlovic on the side of Bayern.

Fermin needed a minute to impact proceedings and played in Raphinha to round Manuel Neuer for an easy finish, but the German giants replied minutes later through a spectacular volley by Harry Kane.

Barcelona weren't on level terms for long and saw Fermin flicked a looping ball over the on-rushing Neuer to leave Robert Lewandowski a simple finish.

Raphinha got a brace on the stroke of halftime when he cut inside to create a yard space and beat Neuer with a superb effort into the far corner.

The Brazilian wizard enjoyed a dream outing and secured a hat-trick just after halftime with a neatly taken effort from a swift break-attack – ensured victory in the end.

Manchester City 5-0 Sparta Prague

Manchester City edged towards top spot in the League Phase of the tournament following a dominant 5-0 victory over Sparta Prague.

Stefan Ortega, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Matheus Nunes and Phil Foden were hauled in by City, with Ederson, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic and Jeremy Doku dropping out.

The Citizens hit the ground running in earnest with Foden firing in from the edge of the box before a remarkable back-heel effort from Erling Haaland extended the tally.

With no response, the English giants continued to run riot as John Stone powered in a header from a Nunes cross and saw Haaland secure his brace through a composed finish later on.

Nunes continued to have control in the closing minutes and managed to get on the score-sheet in the final minute with a neatly taken spot-kick.

Young Boys 0-1 Inter Milan

Inter Milan left it late to see off the struggling Young Boys 1-0 and remained in touching distance with the top-half participants.

Marcus Thuram and striker-partner Lautaro Martinez featured on the bench as coach Simone Inzaghi started Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi.

In a frustrating outing, the Nerazzurri squandered a big chance early in the second half with Arnautovic's effort from the penalty spot saved by David Von Ballmoos following a foul on Denzel Dumfries.

Thuram came off to the bench and sealed victory in time added on through a stern finish from a perfectly worked supply from Federico Dimarco.

RB Leipzig 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool claimed a third successive win to remain in second spot on the table after overcoming RB Leipzig 1-0 on the road.

The six-time European champions made three changes in Alexis Mac Allister, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Darwin Nunez from the team that lined-out in the win over Chelsea on Sunday.

After a tense opening, the Reds grabbed the lead when Tsimikas played a cross into the area which Mohamed Salah knocked back across the face of the area for Nunez to finish off.

Atletico Madrid 1-3 LOSC Lille

LOSC Lille strong start to the season continued and bounced back from a goal down to outmuscle Atletico Madrid 3-1 at the Metropolitano.

Former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez got the ball rolling in the opening ten minutes with a first-time finish after intercepting a build-up from the visitors.

Lille were back on terms after a difficult opening as Edon Zhegrova charged in on the right and cut inside before firing into the top corner.

The Ligue 1 boys grabbed total control later on and went ahead through a spot-kick from Jonathan David who then completed a brace with a simple finish in added time and stamped maximum points.
