Liverpool bagged the UEFA Super Cup with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea in Istanbul on Wednesday evening.
Joe Gomez got re-called and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was drifted in the Reds front-three, while Christian Pulisic, N'Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud started for Chelsea.
From a well-worked move, Pedro teed-off the initiative on 22 minutes to skin the top of the woodwork with Adrian scrambling.
Chelsea broke the deadlock on 36 minutes when Pulisic picked out Giroud, who beat Adrian from point-blank range after taking the delivery in his stride.
More articulated interplays followed as Pulisic added a second from inside the area, but the American was pronounced offside.
Oxlade-Chamberlain went off at the break for Roberto Firmino, who took his usual spot alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
The change worked wonders as Firmino caused miscommunication at the back, allowing Mane to pick up the pieces to slot home two minutes from halftime.
Chelsea were piled with pressure in the last minutes, as Kepa Arrizabalaga pulled off a double save from Salah before parrying Virgil van Dijk's header off the underside of the bar. Mane couldn't make the game safe in the final minutes with clear misses, forcing the match to extra time.
The Senegalese international amended four minutes in when he once again connected with Firmino to side-foot past Kepa.
Chelsea were level nine minutes later after Adrian brought down Tammy Abraham in the area, granting Jorginho to send the Spaniard the wrong way from the penalty spot.
As neither side could find a winner, penalties were needed and with the shoot-out standing at 5-4, Abraham was denied by Adrian's outstretch leg as the Reds marched to victory.
