Mbappe nets on debut as Real bag Super Cup

Real Madrid added some more silverware to their trophy cabinet after defeating Atalanta 2-0 to clinch the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti wasted no time in introducing Kylian Mbappe, who spearheaded the team's attack on his official debut while fellow new signing Endrick was only named on the bench.

For the Serie A side, Gianluca Scamacca is sidelined for a few months due to an ACL injury as they went without recognised striker in their Super Cup debut.

Clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the opening stages of the first half despite the Champions League holders seeing a lot more of the ball in the first 20 minutes.

The biggest chance of the first half fell to Spanish champions on the stroke of halftime but Rodrygo could only send his effort against the crossbar with goalkeeper Juan Musso well beaten.

Atalanta nearly silenced the Los Blancos supporters shortly after the break when Mario Pasalic rose to meet a cross but his header forced goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into a superb finger-tip save.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 59th minute when Federico Valverde had the simple task of firing into an empty net after some good work by Vinicius down the left flank.

Los Blancos got the cushion goal just under ten minutes later when Mbappe marked his debut with a goal by finishing off neat lay-off from Jude Bellingham in the box, leaving Musso flat-footed on the line.

Atalanta had no response in the latter stages as Los Blancos were able to withdraw the likes of Mbappe, Vinicius and Bellingham for the rest of the clash, as they add another trophy to their cabinet.
