BREAKING: Diego Costa seals Premier League return

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has now officially sealed a return to the Premier League.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed the Spanish forward, who was a free agent, on a one-year deal.

The EPL side had brought in striker Sasa Kalajdzic from Stuttgart in the latest transfer window, but the frontman has been ruled out with a long-term ACL injury suffered during their win over Southampton on Saturday.

Costa had been a free agent since January after he left Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, and was linked with moves to Rayo Vallecano and Corinthians, among others, over the past few months but a transfer failed to materialise until Wolves came calling.

This move sees Costa return to England following a fruitful four-year spell with the Blues between 2014 and 2018, during which he scored 59 goals and supplied 23 assists in 120 appearances.

The striker has revealed why he chose to join Wolves.

"It's a first-class club with very good players who know how to play football and having the chance to play in the Premier League again was the main thing," Costa told the club's official website

"Obviously, the club influenced my decision, especially knowing I will be able to adapt a lot more easily here not only from a technical point of view, the quality of the players but also from the fact that a lot of the players are Portuguese and that will make my transition that much smoother.

"It wasn't in the best terms possible on accounts of a player's injury which, unfortunately, I can only wish him nothing but the best for him.

"But when he [Bruno Lage] told me about returning to the Premier League since this a championship I have related to quite a bit, always liked it and followed.

"No matter how much I enjoyed playing in Madrid, I felt discouraged, but this motivated me. It lit that fire within me."
