'Real know how to orchestrate Ballon d'Or campaigns'

France Football's director Pascal Ferré says Real Madrid know how to orchestrate campaigns for their players to win the Ballon d'Or.

The Ballon d'Or returns on Monday evening, with France and Los Blanco striker Karim Benzema tipped collect the award for the first time in his career.

The 34-year-old registered an impressive 44 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, as Los Blancos won the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga titles last campaign.

Ferré has discussed how Real president Florentino Perez has helped his club secure the most Ballon d'Or titles over the years.

"Madrid knows how to orchestrate campaigns. Florentino Pérez orchestrates the campaigns well and tacitly. Real Madrid's approach is to support a single player.," Ferre told Mundo Deportivo.

"For years it was Cristiano Ronaldo and now it's Karim Benzema. That prevents votes from being dispersed. They know how this works. It's no coincidence that it is the club that has won it the most times."

Ferre also opened up about Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland replicating the rivalry Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had for over a decade.

"There is a lot of talk about the rivalry between Mbappé and Haaland, but neither has won the Champions League." he added.

"At Mbappé's age, Messi already had two Ballon d'Ors. If they want to establish a similar rivalry they have to start winning major trophies now. Messi and Ronaldo didn't take that long."
