FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has reportedly informed Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi what his role in the Barca team next season would be should he make a stunning return to the Camp Nou.
Messi's future has been the subject of much speculation of late, with it being public knowledge that his former employers Barcelona are interested in taking him back to the club next season, after his contract at the Parc des Princes expires in June 2023.

Blaugrana president Joan Laporta has made it no secret that this is their intent, while PSG are also understood to be ready to offer the Argentine a new deal to ensure he stays on beyond this campaign.
It also emerged earlier this week that MLS outfit Inter Miami have held talks with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's representatives over a transfer next year, with the team co-owned by David Beckham said to be confident in their pursuit of the player.
For now, nothing has been decided by the 35-year-old, with reports suggesting he will only consider his options for the future after the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In the interim, the Catalan giants remain hopeful they can lure the leading goalscorer of all time back to Spain, with a new report claiming that manager Xavi has explained to Messi how he plans to use him in his team.
According to Joan Fontes of Catalunya Radio, the 41-year-old tactician has informed the Argentine that he will utilise him on the right side of the Blaugrana attack due to his creativity and dribbling qualities, much like he did for more than a decade after his senior debut at Barca in 2005.
It is suggested that with a striker like Robert Lewandowski leading the charge, the Spanish giants believe his combination with Messi would be an added threat as the Poland international has already proved prolific in front of goal for the Catalans, having scored 13 times in 12 LaLiga matches.

Barca, who are still in the midst of an economic crisis, are also understood to be keen to get the likes of Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique off their books as this would free up funds to re-sign Messi.
