EPL boss 'gives go-ahead' to sign Real flop Hazard

With European champions Real Madrid said to be keen to part ways with Belgian attacker Eden Hazard, a Premier League manager has reportedly given his club the go-ahead to sign the Los Blancos flop.

Hazard has been touted as a flop by members of the Spanish press, with the player having failed to live up to expectations since his mammoth €115 million (R2 billion) transfer from Chelsea in 2019.

Since making the switch to the Spanish capital, the 31-year-old has made just 72 appearances and scored only seven goals in a spell that has been disrupted by injuries, lack of fitness, and ultimately long spells on the bench due to his underperformance.

It is believed Real want to offload the former Lille star as the move has not worked out for all parties involved, although his contract is only set to expire in June 2024.

According to Madrid news outlet Defensa Central, English top-flight outfit Aston Villa are now vying for Hazard's signature, with new head coach Unai Emery having already given the green light to pursue the deal.

It is claimed Emery wants the player to take up a leading role in the side, while the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners are hoping to recoup some of the funds they paid for the two-time Premier League winner.

According to Birmingham Live, the deal could be similar to that of Philippe Coutinho, who also made a return to England following a failure to impress in Spain after being bought for a staggering transfer fee

The Brazilian was sold to FC Barcelona for a club-record fee of €135 million by Liverpool in 2018, but after an unsuccessful four-and-a-half-year spell on the Blaugrana's books, he was sold to Villa for €20 million (R360 million) in July this year.

It is suggested that the Villans are keen to undertake a similar deal for Hazard, while he could hope to revive his deteriorating career back in England.
