France star: Mbappe wanted me to join PSG

A France national team star has revealed that superstar forward Kylian Mbappe asked him to join Paris Saint-Germain during the last transfer window.

Didier Deschamps announced his 2022 FIFA World Cup squad on Wednesday, including FC Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, attacker Mbappe, and 2022 Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema.

France were dealt a heavy blow in October when it was confirmed the midfield duo N'Golo Kante of Chelsea as well as Juventus playmaker Paul Pogba were out of the tournament due to respective injuries.

Deschamps has now put his trust on Real pair Edouardo Camavinga and Aurielien Tchouameni, with the latter having already impressed at the Santiago Bernabeu following his €80 million (R1.4 billion) arrival from AS Monaco in July. He has quickly established himself as a starter in Carlo Ancelotti's side, as he is joint-fourth in terms of matches played in the squad.

With the 22-year-old seemingly settled in Madrid, he has now revealed that compatriot and former Los Blancos target Kylian Mbappe suggested that he should join PSG prior to his move to Real.

"I feel I'm where I always wanted to be, here at Real Madrid," the French defensive midfielder told L'Equipe.

"It had a very interesting conversation with Kylian last summer. He wanted to know what I was planning to do.

"And he teased me by saying 'Come on, you have to come too' (to PSG)."We laughed about it, but my choice was made a long time ago."

According to reports in France, Tchouameni is widely expected to start for Les Bleus in their World Cup title defensive, as they have been lined up alongside Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia.
