Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace as Portugal qualified for the last 16 at the FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win over Uruguay on Monday night.
Pepe, Nuno Mendes and Willian Carvalho were recalled by Portugal from the win over Ghana, while Sebastian Coates, Guillermo Varela and Edinson Cavani came in as Uruguay's three alterations.
The first decent threat was presented by the Portuguese in the opening minutes where Joao Felix cut inside and opened an angle to see his curling strike deflected behind.
La Celeste received a golden chance after the half-hour mark when Rodrigo Bentancur burst through on the edge of the area and went level with Diego Costa, who responded with a point-blank stop.
Portugal needed to restructure their playing personnel over five minutes before halftime after Mendes limped off the field injured and was replaced by Raphael Guerrero.
La Celeste struggled to settle after the break and saw the Portuguese make the breakthrough when Bruno Fernandes' inviting ball evaded the head of Ronaldo and sailed into the far corner.
The South Americans looked to pull back immediately from a rasping drive way outside the area by Real Madrid's Federico Valverde, but Costa produced a smart low save.
With just over ten minutes to play, La Celste made the decision to throw on Luis Suarez for Darwin Nunez before Mendes made way for Maximilano Gomez
Gomez very nearly evened the clash shortly after entering, as he worked a yard of space in the area and curled against the top corner.
Portugal looked for a second in additional time with Jose Gimenez flagged by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a hand-ball in the box, and Fernandes tucked the spot-kick away.
Fernandes was at it again in the dying seconds when he controlled a clever pass outside the area and fired off the foot of the post, but 2-0 it finished as Portugal marched into the knockout phases.
