Percy Tau scores again, suffers fresh injury scare

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau continued his resurgence with Al Ahly by scoring for the second match in a row during the club's 3-0 Egyptian Premier League win over Ittihad of Alexandria on Monday.

Having scored on his first start for the season during last week's win over Ghazl El Mehalla, Percy Tau doubled his tally for the campaign on Monday when he netted the opening goal of the club's resounding 3-0 win over Ittihad of Alexandria, or Al-Ittihad.

In the 12th minute, Tau pressed and won back possession in the opposition half before playing Ahmed Abdel Kader through on goal and was on hand to tap home when his teammate's effort was blocked on the line to open the scoring.

Defender Yasser Ibrahim doubled Ahly's lead from a corner with just over half an hour played before Ittihad failed to convert consecutive penalties awarded in their favour either side of the half-time interval.

Tau then almost set up Karim Fouad to score before coming to close to getting a second, although he was forced to be withdrawn after slipping and falling in the build-up to his fonal attempt on goal. Ahly ended the match with 10 men on the park but managed to score a third through Akran Tawfik in the 90th minute.

Following the match, no update was immediately provided on the South African striker's condition but head coach Marcel Koller confirmed that he was nonetheless likely to be rotated for Friday's encounter against Future after starting in the last two matches.

"Koller confirmed that he follows a policy of rotating players, especially the offensive line, and that Tau participated today for the second time, and that it is important for the attackers to be in a good technical and mental state," the club said in a statement.
