Xulu explains the reasoning behind Middendorp's appointment

Swallows FC CEO Sipho Xulu has explained the reasoning behind Ernst Middendorp's appointment as the club's new head coach.

The Dube Birds have secured the German's signature on a three-year deal.

His immediate mandate is to move the team away from the relegation zone.

Swallows are currently in position 14 on the DStv Premiership table and only two points separate them from Sekhukhune United and Maritzburg United who occupy positions 15 and 16 respectively.

"We trust Middendorp because he is the right person to move us out of the position we are currently in," Xulu tells KickOff.

"He is the coach you can depend on to stabilise your team and move it away from where it is.

"His track record speaks for itself and he knows the players.

"He's been following our game and he knows our players, he's been close to the team.

"The only mandate at the moment is to move the team from the danger area, and then we will sit down and start afresh next season.

"He has signed for three years."

Xulu also opened up on caretaker coach Musa Nyatama's situation, as he is still registered as a player now that Middendorp is in charge.

"Musa has been acting, he has never been a full-time coach.

"So now Musa will be working with Middendorp.

"Musa will still remain a player/assistant coach. He can return to the field at any point in time, he is still good enough to do that."

Swallows' next league match is against Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on 31 December 2022.
