Zidane makes call on Man Utd job?

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has reportedly made a call on the possibility of managing Manchester United after being targeted by the English club earlier this year.

Prior to the appointment of current United head coach Erik ten Hag in April, the English club was reported to be in serious pursuit of Zidane, who had taken a sabbatical of sorts following his departure from Real in May 2021.

The Old Trafford outfit's attempts to secure his services did not prevail, though, with it being believed the three-time UEFA Champions League-winning tactician was holding out for the France national team job should Didier Deschamps leave the role after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Since then, Ten Hag has come into the role at the Red Devils and instilled belief in the side after the club's hugely disappointing 2021/22 campaign, which saw them finish with their lowest points total ever in the Premier League era.

According to French publication L'Equipe, though, Zidane is now ready for a return to club management as his desire to coach Les Bleus has seemingly been derailed.

Deschamps is said to be set to sign a contract extension until 2026 following France's runners-up finish at the World Cup.

As such, Zidane is now understood to be considering his options at club level instead, although he is believed to have once again ruled out a move to United.

It is said the 50-year-old has decided that he only wants to coach in a league he knows well, thus excluding teams from the Premier League even though he has improved his English.

Having only managed in Spain to date, a return to LaLiga seems likely, while his former club Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be viable options.

Meanwhile, his successor at the Santiago Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti, recently confirmed that he will remain at the Los Blancos helm until 2024 if he is not relieved of his duties before then.

"I don't know what the future holds for me, I live day by day," he told Italian radio show Rai Radio 1.

"At the moment, I'm happy in Madrid, we have a lot of objectives for this season.

"I have a contract until June 30, 2024, and if Real Madrid don't sack me before then, I'm not going to move."
