BREAKING: African star retires from int. football at 26

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana has announced his retirement from the Cameroon national team, just weeks after he was suspended from the country's 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old has called time on his international career in the wake of a reported fallout with Indomitable Lions boss Rigobert Song in Qatar.

The goalkeeper is thought to have had differences with the manager over the style of play desired, and was subsequently dismissed from the training camp, with the decision later being backed by the Cameroon football federation, Fecafoot.

In a statement posted on Twitter he said his story with the West Africans has come to an end.

The rift between the former Ajax Amsterdam star and Song is understood to have been so intense that the shot-stopper began refusing to speak to the head coach.

Shortly after Onana was sent home, a video of the manager explaining the fallout with the former No. 1 to what appears to be a member of his coaching staff surfaced online.

"The day of the game with Serbia I told Onana that I needed to talk to him and he started crying," Song says in the video, according to the Daily Mail.

"I told him, 'I don't have time to discuss these issues. I called you yesterday and you didn't talk to me. I had chats with [Vincent] Aboubakar, [Eric Maxim] Choupo-Moting and [Andre-Frank Zambo] Anguissa, who are the most representative players in the team; why shouldn't I talk to you?'

"Onana puts on a show in training but takes too many risks during games. I told him repeatedly, 'You should take no risks. Pass the ball wide, not in the middle.'

"He told me, 'I am playing, I don't have time to talk to you'. When he was at the hotel, he didn't talk to me, but went to President Samuel [Eto'o] and he sent him I don't know where."

Onana made 36 appearances for the African giants after making his debut in 2016 at the age of 20.
