France launch official complaint over Mbappe mockery

France have now launched a formal complaint against Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for his "abnormal" taunting behaviour towards Kylian Mbappe since the final whistle of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.

Martinez has come under immense criticism for his continuous mockery of Mbappe following Argentina's World Cup triumph over Les Bleus on Sunday.

The Aston Villa star has made a few digs aimed at the 24-year-old, with the most recent jab coming during the Albiceleste's homecoming parade in Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

The 'keeper was seen holding a doll with a picture of Mbappe's face on it, a gesture that has since been deemed as tasteless by many.

Prior to that, the former Arsenal shot-stopper also taunted the Paris Saint-Germain forward when he called for a "minute of silence" on the Frenchman's behalf during his team's celebrations in the dressing room after the final on Sunday.

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet has since criticised Martinez's behaviour, and confirmed that he has filed a letter of formal complaint with the Argentine Football Association over the goalkeeper's conduct towards Mbappe.

"I wrote to my counterpart from the Argentine federation, I find these excesses abnormal, in the context of a sports competition, and I find it difficult to understand," he told Ouest-France.

"This is going too far. Mbappe's behaviour has been exemplary."

It is believed the animosity from Martinez stems from comments Mbappe made about six months ago, when he claimed that football in South America was not as advanced as in Europe.

"The advantage we have in Europe is that we play among ourselves with high-level matches all the time, such as the Nations League, for example," the PSG superstar said at the time, per TNT Sports

"When we arrive at the World Cup, we are ready, whereas Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America.

"Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That's why at the last World Cups, it was always the Europeans who won."

Martinez later criticised these comments during a press conferences at the World Cup, before going on to make a persistent mockery of the situation.
