'Wantaway' Mbappe to join Barca?

FC Barcelona have reportedly entered the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

In May, the French forward signed a new three-year deal in Paris, ending speculation that he would join Real Madrid, who had made a few offers to sign the player over the course of the 2021/22 campaign.

However, just a few months later, it was claimed that the 24-year-old wanted to leave PSG after a number of promises made to him were not kept by the club's hierarchy, including his reported desire to see Neymar sold.

At the time, the two possible clubs mentioned as possible next destinations for Mbappe were Liverpool and Real Madrid, but the former have just signed another wide forward in Cody Gakpo, spelling doubt on a potential move to Anfield taking place.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are now looking to sign Mbappe following his 2022 FIFA World Cup performances with losing finalists France, which saw the forward walk away with the tournament's Golden Boot prize.

Despite their well-known financial problems, the Catalan giants were active in the most recent transfer window, signing seven players, and it appears the club wants to continue their spending spree.

The Spanish outlet added that Mbappe's desire to leave has only increased after the Ligue 1 side reached an agreement to renew Lionel Messi's deal in Paris.

Messi and some of his Argentine compatriots have also been accused of disrespecting the Frenchman, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez being seen with a doll that had a cut-out of Mbappe's face on it while standing next to Messi during the team's World Cup trophy parade in Buenos Aires.

This incident is said to have left Mbappe livid with his South American teammate.

It is also said the Frenchman feels that Barca would now be a better option than Real Madrid after the abuse he faced on social media from the latter's fanbase when he turned down the LaLiga club earlier this year, while the possibility of sharing a dressing room with Karim Benzema is also apparently not an attractive proposal for the wantaway star.
