Rampant Man City send Chelsea packing

Manchester City thumped Chelsea 4-0 to seal their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne were named on the bench for City with Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez starting in the attack, while Chelsea gave a debut to defender Bashir Humphreys.

City got a clever opening early on when a lofted ball in behind by Bernardo Silva put young Cole Palmer in position and on course for a strike, but the attacker found the side-netting in the end.

The host went in front in the middle of the first spell as Mahrez took a decent pass in his stride and curled superbly beyond Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

It was two right on the half-hour mark after Kai Havertz handled from a corner by Phil Foden and a pitch-side review told the referee to award a penalty, which Alvarez ended up tucking away.

Foden switched roles eight minutes later when a ball through the middle found Kyle Walker who then played a ball across the face of goal where the former charged and executed home.

At the start of the second half, Chelsea made a double change with Denis Zakaria and David Fofana going on for Havertz and Mateo Kovacic in the hope of turning around the encounter, while City remained unchanged.

Mason Mount got a rare opening for the visitors nine minutes from halftime as he ran in behind from a first-time pass and dragged wide of the far hand corner of the net.

The Citizens almost made it four though around the last 20 minutes with a low curler outside the area by Mahrez, but the Algerian's effort drifted wide of the far side.

City were given another spot-kick five minutes from time when Kalidou Koulibaly fouled Foden, which allowed Mahrez to step forward to fire past Arrizabalaga to seal a big win.
