Boost for Orlando Pirates as Thembinkosi Lorch nears fitness return

Orlando Pirates talisman Thembinkosi Lorch is inching towards a return to fitness after being spotted undergoing light individual training in a boost to head coach Jose Riveiro.

Lorch has only made five appearances this season which all came in the first five games of the season with the last on August 21 when he came on as a substitute with 24 minutes remaining.

The Bafana Bafana international had put in full shifts in the other four games but has now not been on the field for the last 14 games.

This week he was spotted working on his way back training on the side of the pitch at Rand Stadium.

While the rest of the squad were in boots and in contact training, he was wearing running shoes and doing individual training.

While no indication has been given about his return, he has been linked with a move to Pitso Mosimane's Saudi Arabia club Al Ahli, but the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician has professed ignorance on that proposed deal.

Originally signed from lower division club Maluti FET College in 2015, Lorch went on loan to Cape Town All Stars and Chippa United in consecutive years before returning in January 2017.

Within the next month, he will have been at Pirates for six years since making his debut giving the club an average return of a goal in every five appearances.

He has as many goals (30) as he does assists (31).
