Luke Fleurs addresses Chiefs links

SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs has explained his decision to renew his contract with Matsatsantsa, amid reported interest from Kaizer Chiefs.

Having fallen down the pecking order in Gavin Hunt's preferred centre-back pairing following the arrival of Thulani Hlatshwayo from Orlando Pirates and with just over six months left on his contract, the 2021/22 PSL Young Player of the Year award winner was heavily linked with a move away from SuperSport.

However, Fleurs has confirmed that he's decided to sign a new deal with Tshwane-based outfit and has shed some light on the decision.

"Obviously my mind was a little on that I'm leaving this season, or something will happen this season. But I renewed and I'm happy now again.

"Moving forward, it's just to keep going with SuperSport throughout this season and whatever happens after that, we'll see what comes my way. Abroad wouldn't be bad. We'll see what happens."

On the links to Chiefs, Fleurs said she was flattered by the interest.

"For me, it shows that people out there see the work I'm putting in. So It's nice to see your name out there because it wasn't out there before. I came from nothing and now my name is everywhere.

"So, it's nice but I have a job here at SuperSport and I'll keep doing my job for SuperSport."

Matsatsantsa will take on log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday evening at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
