Ten Hag to break own rule for Rashford?

Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly ready to break one of his own newly-implemented rules for Marcus Rashford amid interest in the forward from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants are said to be interested in signing the England international and are keenly monitoring the situation around his contract, which is set to expire at the end of next season.

Rashford is one of a number of first-team Red Devils players – others include Fred, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot – who only have a year and a half left on their current deals, with the Premier League giants keen to extend their stays in Manchester.

It was recently claimed that Ten Hag had initiated a 'Cristiano Ronaldo rule', which is believed to state that the highest wages offered for any new signings or contract renewals will be £200 000 (R4.1 million) a week in a bid to boost squad harmony and avoid the amounts paid to the Portugal international in the past.

However, according to the Daily Mail, with discussions over a new contract for Rashford having begun, he will be offered £300 000 (R6.2 million) a week to sign a new deal.

It appears the initial salary limit had been readjusted by Ten Hag and company to £300 000 a week in a bid to keep one of the team's best stars on board and fend off serious interest from PSG, with it being claimed that no player will be offered northward of that amount to ensure that the team's wage structure does not get disrupted.

It remains unclear if this wage cap will affect negotiations with Rashford, but the forward is likely to have the upper hand in talks as his impressive form in this campaign has helped guide the Manchester club into the top four.

In the 2022/23 season so far, Rashford has 22 goal contributions in just 26 matches. This is a dramatic turnaround from his five goals in 40 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign.
