Former Chiefs star defends Zwane's long-term project

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa insists that under-fire head coach Arthur Zwane still has a bright managerial future at the Soweto giants.

Zwane has come under increased scrutiny after successive defeats including a humiliating 4-0 defeat to AmaZulu.

"I don't know what went wrong at Chiefs, to be honest, because they were coming right but, against AmaZulu, everything just collapsed," Mabotsa tells KickOff.

"As a former player myself, I know there will be times when certain things fail to gel.

"Like everything was not functioning, the goalkeeper, the defence, the midfielders and the strikers, the entire team.

"For me, what Arthur is doing is very good in terms of building a team for the future.

"But at the moment, he understands that Chiefs is a big brand, and at the same time, the supporters don't understand the meaning of building, they always want results.

"So that's what's most challenging right now, when it comes to Arthur.

"To be honest, we need more senior players throughout the team's spine.

"But I like what Arthur is doing in introducing the younger boys.

"But if you check, especially in our last game, there was no leadership.

"We just need a striker who will score goals for us, someone like Peter Shalulile.
