Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has responded to the intense criticism his side have endured since successive defeats to Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu.
Khune has faced ridicule following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to AmaZulu on Saturday, the most goals he has ever conceded in a single league encounter in his illustrious career.
"Football is a team sport and yes, when the team is not doing well certain individuals will be labeled and will be given names. But I think that's what brings the best out of me, as an individual, and out of the team.
"As a leader you can't run away from the situation you are facing. You have to face it head on while other players look up to you as a role model and as a senior member of the team.
"If I shy away from the criticism that means I'm not willing to grow.

"So, I'm willing to grow as a leader. I'm willing to grow as a footballer. I'm willing to learn as a human being.
"There are lots of youngsters in the team who can learn a lot from me. So with situations like these, I have to rise. I have to give better performances than the performance I gave against AmaZulu.
"So yes, we will be given names, but one game doesn't define an individual. I mean, I've played for almost two decades. Yes, I've been given names before but how I bounce back is more important."
Chiefs are set to host log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday night at the FNB Stadium.
